The Fourth ASEM Interfaith Dialogue is an activity in the ASEM process.
ASEM
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an informal process of dialogue and co-operation bringing together the 27 European Union Member States and the European Commission with 16 Asian countries and the ASEAN Secretariat. For more information: www.aseminfoboard.org.
ASEF
The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) was established in February 1997 under the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process. ASEF seeks to promote mutual understanding, deeper engagement and continuing collaboration among the people of Asia and Europe through greater intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions. These exchanges include conferences, lecture tours, workshops, seminars and the use of web-based platforms. Hence, a major achievement is the establishment of permanent bi-regional networks focused on areas and issues pertinent for reinforced Asia Europe relations. For further information: www.asef.org.
The ASEF Journalists' Colloquium series serves to enhance the flow of information and exchange of perspectives on major issues of common interest between practicing journalists and expert in specific fields from Asia and Europe. In each Colloquium, key perspectives and recommendations are distilled and conveyed to relevant policy-makers as inputs from civil society. ASEF Journalists' Colloquium on Interfaith Dialogue: The subject of interfaith relations is one of the most salient in Asia-Europe relations today, and has seized the attention of leaders, societies, communities and various sectors of civil society in both regions. Preserving one's faith and remaining loyal to it should not come at the expense to others. Yet, 'interfaith conflicts and violence' have become increasingly visible in recent years. The separation of relationship between religion and state manifests itself differently from country to country, while the expression of religious devotion and its influences differ from one community to another. The ASEF Journalists' Colloquium, a closed-door and informal event, allows participants to openly discuss their perspective on the various complexities surrounding inter-religious differences as well as commonalities and their socio-political implications.
The 6th ASEF Journalists' Colloquium will be held to immediately precede the official ASEM Interfaith Dialogue in Amsterdam on June 2nd 2008. This will be the fourth consecutive year that a Journalists' Colloquium is being held back-to-back with the Dialogue. For more information: www.asef.org or email cahyadi@asef.org.
